Frenectomy
Frenectomy is a procedure in which a small fold of tissue is removed from any part of the body because it prevents an organ from moving freely. Frenectomy procedures are generally performed to fix birth abnormalities so it’s more common among babies and children.
An oral frenectomy is a process of separating the tongue from the bottom when it’s attached very closely and prevents the tongue from moving normally. During the procedure the frenum with its attachment in the underlying bone is completely removed.
Types Of Frenectomy
Mucosal: It occurs when frenal fibres attach to the mucogingival junction
Gingival: It is caused by fibres that are inserted within the gingiva
Papillary: It occurs when fibres extend into the interdental papilla
More Details On Frenectomy
Depending on the size and thickness of the tissue removed, patients might feel a simple and little pain after the procedure and the pain can be relieved with painkillers.
Procedures generally take thirty minutes to an hour and patients can go back to your daily life right after the operation.
The healing process is very quick as there is no big incision or a deep cut made during the procedure so everything will feel normal right after the procedure.
