Smile Laser-RELEX
Corneal refraction laser surgery has evolved rapidly over the past few decades and has become one of the most common methods used to treat vision impairment. Developments in the field generate three generations of technologies: PRK, LASIK, and SMILE.
Smile Laser-RELEX, the 3rd generation technique for correcting visual impairment with laser, is a lenticular removal technique with a small incision. This method, which uses a full femtosecond laser, is a minimally invasive technique. It is a flapless surgery. It is seen as the most advanced, tissue-preserving and sensitive method for vision correction among laser methods.
People Suitable for Smile Laser-RELEX
• Persons 18 years of age or older,
• People whose eye number has not changed in the last year,
• Those with myopia between -1.00 and -10.00 degrees,
• Those whose astigmatism is not greater than -5.00 degrees,
• People with suitable general eye and corneal health conditions can benefit from Smile Laser-RELEX treatment.
Dry eye, infection, and epithelial ingrowth cases are reduced with the SMILE technique, which requires an 80% smaller sidecut and a 30% smaller valve incision than LASIK. To provide high biomechanical protection and stability, the cornea is virtually untouched.
Smile Laser-RELEX treatment can be an ideal option for people with an active lifestyle or a busy job. Smile Laser-RELEX treatment removes the risk of highly active people or professional athletes accidentally dislodging the cornea flap. Since Smile Laser-RELEX does not involve cutting a flap-like LASIK in the cornea, it ensures that complications that may occur afterward are eliminated.
Smile Laser-RELEX Operation Process
Before the operation, detailed eye control and examinations are performed to evaluate whether the patient's eye structure is suitable for SMILE surgery. The laser is applied after a vacuum ring is placed that prevents the eyes from moving during surgery. The laser procedure performed during the surgery takes about 27 seconds. The part created in the cornea is removed by the doctor through a 2 mm incision. It is recommended that you rest for the rest of the day after surgery.
Throughout the day, eye-watering, glare in the lights, and sensitivity in the eye are normal reactions expected after surgery. Complaints are reduced with the drops used.
Benefits of Smile Laser-RELEX
• Since a large incision is not made to create a corneal flap, complications related to the flap tissue are not expected.
• Complications such as flap folding and failure to fit are not expected immediately after the surgery.
• In the long term, the risk of valve displacement in any trauma that may occur in the eye is also eliminated.
• Since a smaller corneal incision is created and the number of nerves cut is less, dry eye due to loss of sensation is reduced to minimal levels.
• As a result of the procedure, the patient has a good vision.
• Since Smile Laser-RELEX can be used in high visual defects (up to 10 degrees in myopia, 5 degrees in astigmatism), it provides high visual quality to patients. Patients above these degrees will be pleased with a reduction in their glasses degrees after the procedure.
